    Uad Plug Ins

Discover the Phenomenal Sound of UAD-2 Powered Plug-Ins. There are two things that make UAD-2 Powered Plug-Ins extremely special. First, the crew at Universal Audio went directly to the companies whose gear they modeled to license their technology and enlist the very people who made the hardware in the first place.

Suddenly all of my UAD plugins are producing wierd stereo effect, Help! Hi, as of yesterday all of my UAD plugins are behaving weirdly. They all produce a stereo effect. What it sounds like to me is hard right is the unprocessed sound and hard left is the processed sound. Makes no difference whether it's an EQ, Compressor or reverb.

They all do it. Cannot fathom why. In Realverb Pro you will notice a bunch of horizontal sliders in the bottom right of the plugin window, they all relate to stereo positioning of various elements. They are all greyed out. Never seen that before. For example I place the 1176LN in the insert of a mono vocal track. I get a dry but delayed vocal on the right and the processed compressed vocal on the left.

This problem is not happening with plugins from other vendors. I place the compressor on the stereo drums bus and suddenly I have two versions of my snare, one on the left and one on the right instead of it being down the middle. Anyone have any idea what's happening? I updated to version 8.6 of the UAD software, it made no difference.

I asked this question on the UAD forum but only got one reply from a guy who remembers it happening to him a few years ago but can't remember why or how it was solved. Is SONAR responsible at all, has anyone else noticed anything similar happen? Help, currently my UAD plugins are unusable. Honestly, I have found some odd issues with 2016.05 as well with UAD but want to install 06 to see if that clears them up. One of the things I did notice in 05 is that a NEW project BYPASSes the FX bins by default. This drove me nuts for awhile in that the plug color remains ORANGE when bypassed (albeit, I noticed a NOT AS BRIGHT orange which led to decipher why my plugins weren't working). Not sure if this has been reported already, if it is just my DAW and/or if this too is already fixed in 06.

Jim PS - would be NICE if the bakers could indicate with a different color scheme or maker for bypass plugs. Before Titanium, they were greyed out and easy to see. Jim I have been using the latest UAD software (and SONAR always up to date) after upgrading / updating to Win 10 (the day after they released it), and did not have any UAD issues. I makes me think it is a settings issue of some sort.

All the best. Benjaminfrog Hi. Might you be using mono versions of the plugins on stereo tracks?

I know you referenced a mono vocal track, but it's possible to have a mono clip on a stereo track, so I thought I'd ask. I wonder if this is the issue.

I did something new the other day. I got fed up of trawling through dozens and dozens of UAD plugins, most of which I don't have the licenses for, just to load the one I want.

So I went to plugin manager and created a myUAD folder into which I copied the 13 UAD plugins I do own. Now I can go straight to that folder and find what I want immediately.

I wonder if it was the mono instances of those plugins that I copied there or vice versa and that is causing the issue. I'll try replacing the plugin with the one from the original folder and see if the problem goes away. I keep my stereo & mono UAD plug-ins in separate folders for easy access and organization. The main reason I use the mono versions is they use less DSP (sometimes a lot less DSP) than simply using the stereo versions on mono tracks. A stereo tranny enabled FATSO used on a mono track uses the full 40.5% DSP @ 44.1k. Simply using the mono version reduces the DSP load to 25%.

Less DSP use means more available DSP for other plug-ins. Most of my tracks are mono so the DSP savings can be significant. In the SONAR Plugin Manager default VST list, the top UAD plug-in is the mono version and the bottom is stereo (even though they appear identical). Cheers, Billy Buck. Billy Buck, I use to do this with MONO instances as well, then I read some where on the official UA site that this issue was addressed by their software implementation and no longer need to use the MONO plugs. If I a reading you correctly, this is not true and I should return to the MONO versions. I did notice that if I used a MONO plug in certain FX chain combinations on a stereo track or a STEREO plug on a MONO track in the old days in SONAR, weirdness would happen and using the MONO plugin on a MONO track fixed the weirdness.

Which got corrected after the UA update for this. Not debating what you said, trying to learn from you on how to proceed going forward. Jimkleban Billy Buck, I use to do this with MONO instances as well, then I read some where on the official UA site that this issue was addressed by their software implementation and no longer need to use the MONO plugs. Hey Jim, The latest versions of SONAR/UAD still use DSP according to the actual version used (stereo or mono) on a particular track. Not sure of any other software implementation aspect being fixed, as I always use mono versions on mono tracks and stereo versions on stereo tracks. But the DSP savings is still applicable.

I do the same thing in REAPER and Mixbus as well. Those two apps you do need to use the appropriate versions as there are other related performance issues, in addition to the DSP savings.

In the screen capture below, I have two mono tracks. The top one I inserted a stereo UA610 and the bottom one the applicable mono version. In the UAD Control Panel Hardware pane you can see the stereo version is using the full 'stereo' DSP load of 44.8% (DSP 1) on a mono track, while simply inserting the 'mono' version the DSP drops down to 23% (DSP 2). That is reason enough for me to use the mono versions. In a project using dozens of UAD plug-ins, the DSP savings can be quite significant. Cheers, Billy Buck.
